Variety

We enjoyed a variety of activities today.  We started with a brief visit to Lafayette Cemetery #1 in the Garden District.  The non-sectarian cemetery has been the set for several movies and television shows.  As in other NO cemeteries, earlier bodies are pushed back when a new one is buried.

The stacked tombs are known as Cities of the Dead and are French in design.  The stacked crypts are Spanish.

The highlight of the day was lunch at Commander’s Palace.

Today was twenty-five cent martini day and the most popular choice was the Blue Martini made with Curacao and vodka.
Pictured below are popular luncheon choices.

Turtle soup

Melon Gazpacho

Shrimp and grits

Bread Pudding

Ice cream sundae

Pecan pie

Strawberry short cake.

Sated, we went downstairs and through the kitchen to tour a bit of the district.  We walked by the home Sandra Bullock bought when she was making Blindside
and a home previously owned by a member of the Sinclair Oil family.
Our last stop was at Beads by the Dozen, a company that sells throws used during Mardi Gras.  Paul, one of the owners, explained that each person on a float has 5 - 40 bags filled with beads, cups, and balls.  Each filled bag costs about $35.

We all wandered the shop and several of us bought treats for ourselves, family and friends.

Then it was back to the campground to rest up for the light bites that served as our dinner.  We were too full from lunch for anything more.
